2-1-1 is the national abbreviated dialing code for free access to health and human services information and referral (I&R). 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember and universally recognizable number that makes critical connections between individuals and families in need and community-based organizations and government agencies. Free and confidential help is available for many needs, including housing, employment, legal aid, counseling and more.

2-1-1 is simply, but powerfully, a telephone number that makes a critical connection between individuals and families in need and apheypropriate community based organizations or government agencies.

Where is 2-1-1 available?

  • Today, 2-1-1 reaches approximately 165 million Americans- over 55% of the population with 190 active 2-1-1 centers in 38 states (including 13 states with 100% coverage) plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.
  • Indiana 211 Partnership (IN211) is a non-profit Indiana social service organization that is bringing 2-1-1 service to Hoosiers. IN211 and its eight Centers provide 2-1-1 access to residents of 56 counties, or about 70% of Hoosiers. As these Centers expand and other Centers come on-line, 2-1-1 access will spread across the state.
      

2-1-1 can offer access to the following types of services

  • Basic Human Needs Resource: food banks, clothing closets, shelters, rent assistance, utility assistance.
  • Physical and Mental Health Resources: health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, Children's Health Insurance Program, medical information lines, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation.
  • Employment Supports: financial assistance, job training, transportation assistance, education programs.
  • Support for Older Americans and Persons with Disabilities: adult day care, congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, respite care, home health care, transportation, homemaker services.
  • Support for Children, Youth and Families: childcare, after school programs, Head Start, family resource centers, summer camps and recreation programs, mentoring, tutoring, protective services.
