The cost of prescription medications has been and will continue to be a major barrier to a healthier Madison County. Discount programs like FamilyWize makes prescription assistance available for all residents with no insurance or with prescriptions that their insurer will not cover. Without the cost assistance that FamilyWize provides, many individuals would be more likely to make preventable emergency room visits, miss days of work or school and be less productive at home and work. The economic impact of prescription assistance programs provides real value to all county residents.

The FamilyWize prescription discount program 2010 annual report shows a continued need for prescription cost assistance programs for Madison County’s uninsured or underinsured residents. For 2010, Madison County residents filled 36,807 prescriptions, a 55% increase over the number of prescriptions filled in 2009. FamilyWize discounts saved residents 505,960 dollars, averaging $13.64 dollars, or about 29%, saved per prescription. In 2010 we also celebrated a total of one million dollars saved since releasing the program in Madison County.

The United Way of Madison County would like to extend their appreciation and admiration to all providers and volunteers that have helped promote and expand the FamilyWize program. Your efforts have not only saved Madison County residents dollars, but have had an immeasurable positive effect on the lives and well-being of thousands.
