United Way Board of Directors Approves Community Support Budget

United Way of Madison County’s Board of Directors approved the 2011 community support budget of $984,686 at its March meeting. "Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and staff, and the generosity of thousands of individuals and organizations, we're able to again direct nearly $1 million back to the community despite continued economic challenges.  Local organizations are working together more than ever to address immediate needs while our vision council volunteers and board leaders are helping us identify and secure strategies that will build a stronger sustainable future for all." said President Nancy Vaughan.

Certified agencies will receive $520,409 to fund 27 programs over the next year and community impact strategies Born Learning Connection, Community Access Network (CAN), and the Youth Mentoring Initiative will receive $125,900. Covering Kids and Families of Madison County, Indiana’s Hardest Hit Fund/Volunteer Action Center, RSVP, and the Mentoring Initiative will receive $166,667 from additional leveraged resource development opportunities. Program funding is awarded annually April 1 through March 31 based on requests from certified agencies.

Local organizations will also receive $97,119 in donor directed funds from the fall 2010 campaign. In addition, board members have set aside $10,000 for discretionary funding, $60,000 for UCAP (Utility Assistance Fund) and $5,000 for CANEN (Community Access Network Exceptional Needs Fund). UCAP and CANEN are shared funding pools that may be used to assist clients by any one of the CAN partner organizations.
