Ensuring that children meet key developmental and educational milestones is a priority issue for United Way and our community. Kids who start strong finish strong. By investing in quality early education for our youngest children, we are laying the foundation for later success in school and life. Long-term benefits include reductions in grade retention; reduced crime and delinquency; increased graduation rates; and increased adult economic success.
Born Learning™ - Today, 51 percent of our Madison County children are entering kindergarten without the skills necessary to be successful in school. Our youngest children lack adequate exposure to the written and spoken word. Born Learning works with parents, families and caregivers sharing the knowledge and tools to teach and nurture their children through everyday teachable moments.
We are working together with our families, Madison County school systems, higher education, local libraries, and our agencies to support the development of our youngest children. A quality education leads to employment opportunities with enough income to support a family through retirement and good health.
